Distance and Online Learning - Thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and sharing
Please share your thoughts on distance/online learning. Have you seen successful models? Do you think we will soon?
It seems like there are a several programs out there, but if these are not prevalent in your district, then you probably are unaware of the options that exist, if I am right? To implement such programs is a cultural shift and preparing your schools and community cannot happen over night! Selecting teachers and students to be involved takes strategic planning. As we know, not all teacher and/or students can survive in such "virtual" environments. I just recently got over a great deal of skepticism for online learning; I always had issues with the lack of physical, social interactions, but it isn't an either, or! Many students do succeed! We do see places in rural Arkansas and California, among others, creating successful models. We know the students are ready for this, but some of us may be holding them back!
